The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has launched a manhunt for a notorious three-member gang accused of targeting wealthy male patrons at entertainment venues across the Nairobi metropolitan area.
The gang is linked to the death of a man identified as Mokua, who was allegedly drugged at a bar in Lavington before his phone was stolen and his mobile money account emptied. Mokua later died, with toxicology tests underway to establish whether the substance used in the alleged spiking contributed to his death.
Five days later, investigators say the gang targeted a businessman at a bar in Ruiru. After allegedly spiking his drink, the suspects reportedly swapped his SIM card and stole Sh500,000 by draining his mobile wallet and taking out loans in his name.
