Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has won the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, delivering a significant political setback to President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru secured a decisive victory, reportedly garnering about 85% of the votes cast after a campaign centered on grassroots mobilization and extensive engagement through local vernacular media.

Political analysts attribute the outcome to strong local networks, sustained voter outreach, and growing dissatisfaction among sections of the electorate with the UDA leadership in the Mt. Kenya region.

The by-election campaign was also marked by heated political exchanges, with negative remarks directed at the DCP candidate becoming a rallying point for supporters.

The result is expected to reshape political calculations in the Mt. Kenya region, where UDA has traditionally enjoyed strong support, as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.
