Kenya's High Court has ordered the reconstitution of President William Ruto's Cabinet within 120 days, citing non-compliance with the Constitution's two-thirds gender principle.
The court found that the current Cabinet does not meet the constitutional requirement that no more than two-thirds of members in appointive or elective public bodies be of the same gender.
At the centre of the ruling is the composition of the Executive, which comprises 25 members, including the President, Deputy President and the Attorney General. Of these, only seven are women, falling short of the constitutional gender threshold.
The decision follows growing public concern over the representation of women in senior government positions, with critics arguing that qualified women continue to be overlooked despite repeated commitments to gender equality.
The ruling gives the government four months to restructure the Cabinet and align it with Article 27(8) of the Constitution, which seeks to promote equitable gender representation in public leadership.
