Kenyatta University has emerged as the leading public university in attracting government-sponsored undergraduate students for the 2025 KCSE cohort, according to the latest placement data released by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
The placement statistics show that a total of 270,508 candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above qualified for government-sponsored degree programmes across public universities.
Kenyatta University received the highest number of placements, admitting 11,224 students. Maseno University followed with 9,196 students, while Moi University secured 8,869 placements.
The University of Nairobi ranked fourth with 8,604 students, closely followed by Chuka University, which admitted 7,946 students. Kisii University received 7,903 placements, while Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) admitted 7,586 students.
The figures reflect student preferences during the KUCCPS application process, as well as the capacity of universities to accommodate government-sponsored learners under the annual placement exercise.
KUCCPS coordinates the placement of students who qualify for degree, diploma and certificate programmes in universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, ensuring eligible candidates are allocated available training opportunities based on their qualifications and programme choices.
