Fears of a possible Ebola outbreak in Nairobi have been eased after laboratory tests confirmed that a Turkish national who had exhibited Ebola-like symptoms tested negative for the virus.
The incident unfolded on the night of June 1, 2026, when the foreign national sought medical attention at AAR Hospital along Kiambu Road after reportedly developing symptoms that raised concerns among healthcare workers.
According to The Standard reports, the patient displayed signs that medical personnel considered suspicious and consistent with symptoms commonly associated with viral hemorrhagic fevers, including Ebola. The situation escalated when the patient allegedly became uncooperative with hospital staff, prompting the facility's management to seek assistance from local police officers.
As efforts to assess and manage the patient's condition continued, the individual reportedly lost consciousness while under medical care, further heightening concern among health officials and security personnel involved in the response.
Samples were subsequently collected and submitted for laboratory analysis to determine whether the patient was infected with the deadly Ebola virus. The testing process triggered heightened vigilance given recent public concern surrounding biosecurity and infectious disease preparedness in the country.
However, Nairobi North Sub-County police officials later confirmed that the laboratory results returned negative for Ebola, effectively ruling out the disease and easing fears of a potential public health emergency.
