The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) continues to play a key role in promoting social justice and economic empowerment by supporting vulnerable groups across Kenya's 47 counties.
Established in 2015 under the Public Finance Management Act, NGAAF operates as a semi-autonomous government agency under the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action. The fund is implemented at the county level through the offices of the elected County Women Representatives.
NGAAF is designed to address socio-economic inequalities by providing targeted support to groups that have historically faced marginalisation and limited access to economic opportunities.
Among its primary beneficiaries are women, who receive assistance to strengthen community groups and expand small businesses through income-generating initiatives. The fund also supports young people, including those who are not in education, employment or training, by promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment.
Persons with disabilities benefit from programmes aimed at improving economic independence through the provision of assistive devices and livelihood support. NGAAF also assists vulnerable children by providing educational support to needy learners, while elderly persons and disadvantaged communities receive interventions intended to cushion them against economic hardship and the rising cost of living.
