Former Mungiki leader Ndura Waruinge has been ordered by the Environment and Land Court to vacate more than a dozen plots in Kitengela, Kajiado County, following a 12-year legal battle.

Justice Judy Omange ruled that Waruinge unlawfully occupied the 1.7-acre property and ordered him to pay Sh30 million in damages to the rightful owners, Jane Wanjiku Waweru and Kirumba Mwaura.

The disputed property comprises 13 plots where Waruinge allegedly constructed structures, while access to six other plots was blocked after he occupied a road reserve.

The damages include Sh1 million for trespass, Sh5 million in punitive damages and Sh24 million for loss of land use over the 12-year period.

The court has given Waruinge 60 days to vacate the property voluntarily. Failure to comply will see the Officer Commanding Station at Ongata Rongai Police Station enforce the eviction.
